Welcome to blogging Robert. Many people believe that aging is a degenerative process only... that neurons ineluctably disappear. As you pointed out, use it or lose it holds true. But the cognitive fitness you describe can not only avert the degenerative process but also revert it. The brain evolves, and it's up to its user to get it going in the right direction. A very optimistic perspective on aging, one that everyone should keep in mind and act upon it. I'm 29 today but plan on being a very young centenarian one day.
